One of the pillars of the tradition of Cigar Box guitar making is the reuse of found objects. One of the most exciting moments for someone seeing a Cigar Box Guitar for the first time is when they realize that something so cool could have been made out of trash!
Now before I show you how I re-purposed air-soft pellets in my latest Cigar Box Guitar, let me recommend a book which explains the history of the reuse of trash for making musical instruments. This book introduced the term detritomusicology to me. A word I often want to remember when describing myself as a Cigar Box Guitar maker, however, 'detritomusicology' often escapes my memory due to my brain only retaining words which have 7 syllables or less.
Behold the definition of the enormous word which often escapes my memory:
'Detritomusicology is defined as the study of music made from discarded and reused material.'
-William J Jehle (One Man's Trash)

I may have had 1 too many trips to a store to call my airsoft pellets reused or discarded, but I believe my latest project was within the spirit of reusing materials for making a guitar. Or better yet I'll make my own term up which better describes what I did.
Behold a new word to describe what I do as a Cigar Box Guitar maker:
